In practice it's the closest thing the peninsula has to a town reunion, with a competitive edge: every vendor is competing for the Golden Spatula Awards, and after you sample each booth, you vote for your favorite appetizer, beverage, and dessert.
A few practical notes that separate a first-timer from someone who's been going for years.
First, this is not a family event. Taste is 21 and up only, with a 100 percent ID check at the door. Line up a sitter or plan a date night, but do not roll up with the stroller.
Second, tickets are not a day-of decision. Organizers anticipate selling out before the event, and there are no tickets at the door. All sales run online through Eventbrite, though the chamber office at 3044 Gulf Breeze Parkway will accept cash or check payment weekdays 9 to 4 if you'd rather handle it in person.
Third, and this is where locals earn their stripes, plan the parking before you plan the outfit. The community center lot fills up first, and once it does, organizers direct guests to Shoreline Park and the new turf field lot, with complimentary golf cart shuttles running to and from those lots. If you live within a mile, walking is genuinely the easiest option. If you don't, drop your group at the community center and let one person park at Shoreline.
One more detail worth knowing. VIP is not a status flex. General admission starts at 6, with scanning at 5:40 and a gate hold until 6, while VIP ticket holders may enter at 5 PM with their check-in line opening at 4:45. That one hour with the judges' panel present is when the vendors are freshest and the crowds are lightest. Boo at the Zoo returns with six days of not-so-spooky Halloween fun, featuring trick-or-treating, bounce houses, face painting, and animal encounters during a daytime fall festival designed for kids and the young at heart. Six days is more runway than most Halloween events give you, which matters if you have a schedule that doesn't cooperate with a single Saturday. Weekday sessions tend to move faster and feel less pressed.
Then the Zoo caps the season with something more substantive. On November 27, the Black Friday event runs 9 AM to 4 PM: bring a new, unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more for Toys for Tots and get 50 percent off any single-day ticket for each guest who donates. A family of four turning a $40 toy donation into two half-price tickets is a rare deal in Santa Rosa County, and it doubles as the least stressful thing to do on the day after Thanksgiving.
For planning purposes, note the shoulder-season hours. February 28 through October 30 the zoo runs 9 to 5 with the last guest admitted at 4, then October 31 through December 31 it shifts to 9 to 4 with a 3 PM last admission, and it's closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If you're bringing out-of-town family after the holiday, that 3 PM cutoff catches people every year.

The Saturday before Taste of Gulf Breeze is Smokin' in the Square BBQ Cookoff, held October 17 in Gulf Breeze. It's a smaller footprint than the chamber event, but it's the one where you actually run into your neighbors twice, once in line for brisket, once at the beverage tent. Show up hungry.
Running alongside all of this is Gulf Breeze Celebrates the Arts 2026, a juried art show that fills out the cultural side of the calendar for households who'd rather look at paintings than eat their way through a parking lot.
